The Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) under the Ministry of Health on September 10, 2019 issued Document No.772/AIDS-ĐT guiding the referral of medical examination and treatment facilities with health insurance for people living with HIV.

People living with HIV/AIDS should be treated with health insurance in hospitals at the proper level as of January 01, 2020. (Illustration photo)

Under the document, people who are receiving treatment with antiretroviral (ARV) drugs at central, municipal and provincial hospitals without registering for health insurance can continue their treatment until December 12, 2019.

From the beginning of 2020, to continue receiving ARV drugs for treatment with health insurance, the patients must be referred to medical facilities at a proper level. This process will start on September 1, 2019 and should be completed before the end of December 2019.

People to be referred include:

- Those over 16 being treated for HIV/AIDS at central and provincial hospitals without having previously registered for health insurance.

- Those without proper referral papers to continue HIV/AIDS treatment with health insurance at central and provincial hospitals where they are being treated.

If patients want to continue their treatments, they must ask for a referral paper for treatment with health insurance once a year from the start of 2020.

If they want to move to lower-level hospitals, they will also receive a referral paper. They should register at the new hospital within seven days of the day they move./.
