On 31 July 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra signed Decision No.1468/QD-TTg, assigning health insurance (HI) coverage targets to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally governed cities for the 2026–2030 period, with the objective of increasing nationwide HI coverage from 95.98% in 2026 to 100% by 2030. The Decision takes effect from the date of signing.

Statistics from the HI Claim Review System indicate that, during 2025 and the first half of 2026, the HI Fund reimbursed medical care costs amounting to billions of Vietnamese dong in numerous cases.
