Expansion of social and health insurance participants

According to the report from Vietnam Social Security (VSS), by the end of May 2024, the key indicators for the expansion of social, health and unemployment insurance have all increased compared to the same period in 2023.

In May, the number of social insurance participants nationwide increased by 100,000 people compared to the previous month. Some localities recorded a high increase in the number of participants in this policy, such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Hanoi...

Specifically, the collection and participants expansion of social, health, and unemployment insurance participants reached and increased compared to the same period in 2023, with about 17.414 million social insurance participants, up 1.67% compared to the same period in 2023.

Among them, about 16 million compulsory social insurance participants; about 1.45 million voluntary social insurance participants. The whole country has 14.253 million people participating in unemployment insurance, an increase of 1.67% compared to the same period in 2023.

Especially, the industry has flexibly implemented many solutions to expand health insurance participants and achieved positive results with about 90.614 million participants (an increase of 0.02% compared to the same period in 2023). The total revenue from social, health and unemployment insurance is estimated VND 195.495 trillion, an increase of VND 16.376 trillion compared to the same period last year.

In the context of the economy difficulty, VSS has directed the province and city social security to vigorously implement synchronized solutions for expanding participants; urging collection and reducing late social insurance and health insurance payment.

According to VSS’ General Director Nguyen The Manh, the results achieved by the social security sector in the first five months have all increased compared to the same period, indicating a favorable start. In recent times, the entire sector has been very responsible, many important tasks have been implemented quickly, especially in ensuring the rights of people and policy beneficiaries of social and health insurance.

In the coming time, General Director Nguyen The Manh requested the units to coordinate and focus on developing and implementing scenarios and plans to accelerate the social, health and unemployment insurance participant expansion. This will include strengthening cooperation with agencies to organize appropriate forms of communication and promotion; organizing launch ceremonies for the development of social and health insurance; enhancing and innovating communication work in the new situation; and focusing on reviewing data from the Tax Department to implement the collection and expand participants.

In particular, closely follow the directives of the Government and the industry  seriously implement, thereby developing scenarios and plans for synchronized and effective implementation. In this regard, direct the social security offices of provinces and cities to urgently and actively advise and mobilize the participation from all levels in the implementation of social and health insurance policies; assign targets to each commune and ward, ensuring sustainable growth.
