Vietnam Social Security (VSS) and the Embassy of Denmark signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of health insurance during the 2023-2025 period on February 28.

The MoU was signed between VSS Deputy Director General Nguyen Duc Hoa and Deputy Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam Troels Jakobsen.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VSS Deputy Director General Hoa said the VSS has gained outstanding achievements in developing the number of social insurance and health insurance participants.

There are around 91.1 million health insurance participants at present, accounting for 92.04 per cent of the population. The health insurance coverage rate for pupils and students has reached nearly 100 per cent.

The VSS has shared experience in developing health insurance participants with many countries.

Hoa spoke highly of Denmark’s support in sharing experience in implementing social security, contributing to improving the operational efficiency of VSS via joint activities held between the two sides such as the organization of conferences on healthcare.

However, he said, apart from achievements, the VSS still faced many difficulties and challenges and hoped that the Embassy of Denmark will help to connect with other countries to share international experience with the VSS in the field of health insurance, helping it to address shortcomings and difficulties to fulfill the target of sustainable development of health insurance policy.

“In the future, we hope to continue to get support from Denmark, particularly in the field of mutual interest such as effectively controlling medical examination and treatment costs covered by health insurance, managing medicine prices, digitalisation in health management and application of AI in preventing the abuse of health insurance,” he said.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Deputy Ambassador Troels Jakobsen said healthcare is one of the fields of cooperation of top priority between Vietnam and Denmark. Therefore, this field will continue to be part of the cooperation plan between the countries in the coming years.

The MoU of cooperation between the two sides was an important step, opening up cooperation opportunities to improve the quality of health insurance officials of the VSS, helping to promote management capacity and ensuring the health insurance fund provides healthcare for people, he said.
