The Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) on October 15 awarded winners of the 3rd Media Competition on Poverty Reduction in the period 2016-20.
Awards are handed out to the winners.
The organisers chose 41 journalists with outstanding stories, of which four won first prize, eight won second prize, 14 won third prize and 15 received the encouragement prize. The Nhan Dan (The People) newspaper won the collective prize for the number of works which were submitted and awarded.
The MoLISA said that poverty reduction recently received close attention from the Party and State. It also received close supervision from the National Assembly, as well as the drastic guidance and operation of the Government and Prime Minister.
The whole political system took part in the work of poverty reduction, exceeding targets of the Resolution.
The poverty reduction rate equaled about 1.55 per cent annually, or more than 300,000 escaping poverty.
The above results are thanks to the companionship and participation of numerous media agencies and journalists across the country.
By August 31, 2019, the competition organiser received 325 written reports, photo sets, radio programmes and television programmes from many central and local media agencies.
Permanent Deputy Chairman of the VJA Ho Quang Loi said that the quality of the works this year was equal as many media agencies had put much efforts in them.
There are many long-term works on poverty reduction in localities. Many television, radio and newspaper works were of good quality. They discovered effective ways to reduce poverty, as well as reported shortcomings in operating and implementing poverty reduction policies.
Many journalists analysed the reasons for poverty in localities, and proposed measures to improve sustainable poverty reduction in the future.
