Viet Nam Social Security has co-operated with the Journalist Association of the central province of Quang Nam to give 11 awards for outstanding journalism works as part of a contest titled “Writing journalism works to disseminate social and health insurance in the 2019-20 period.”
The awards include one first prize, one second prize and three third prizes for TV and print journalism and one third prize for radio journalism.
The awards were given after the Organising Committee launched the contest and received 35 works from 23 journalists and groups of journalists in the province and some other localities a year ago.
This is the first year the contest has been organised in the province.
The contest is designed to further promote the dissemination of policies and laws on social and health insurance.
It also aims to honour outstanding journalism works that not only reported the policies of social, health and unemployment insurance but also contributed to encouraging people from all walks of life to actively participate in social, health and unemployment insurance, towards a strong social-security foundation.
Nguyen Thanh Danh, deputy director of the Viet Nam Social Security’s Agency in Quang Nam Province and head of the organising committee, said although the number of journalism works applying for the contest was not high, many works’ content reflected the real situation of all activities of the social insurance sector.
Danh said the journalism works had provided multi-dimensional information, criticised and reflected the real situation as well as pointed out the causes and solutions for the limitations and shortcomings in the observance of policies and laws related to social and health insurance in localities and enterprises.
Especially, the journalists also named enterprises that intentionally delayed their payments of social and health insurance; and individuals and organisations that used tricks to illegally gain benefits from the social insurance funds, affecting the benefits of participants, he said.
Danh added that the journalism works also provided readers and audiences with information of practical benefits if they participated in voluntary social insurance and household health insurance.
The information helped in confirming the importance of the social insurance sector in the community, he said.
Nguyen Duc Toan, deputy director of the Viet Nam Social Security’s Media Centre said most of the journalism works met the contest’s criteria.
Subjects of the journalism works were diverse and the works had been written meticulously and enthusiastically, he said.
Notably, besides the major press agencies of the province; many journalists, who worked at central-level press agencies, such as Viet Nam Television’s VTV1 channel, VTV8 channel, Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper, Thanh Tra (Inspection) newspaper and Viet Nam Economic Times, participated in the contest, he said./.
