The Viet Nam Social Security (VSS) has shared the database of 24 million households buying health insurance with the Ministry of Health, a move aimed to improve health insurance management and health care activities.

The two sides have inked a document on the sharing of the database.

VSS Deputy Director General Pham Luong Son said the VSS built the database of health insurance buying households, one of the six national databases, in two years. Updates are still being made to ensure that the database is as adequate and reliable as possible, serving the implementation of social welfare policies, including health insurance.

He added the database provision is meant to ensure that in the near future, the health of each people will be cared by a doctor or a medical establishment, thus they can have the best access to medical services right at the grassroots level.

The database shared among all ministries and sectors is necessary to provide a specific code for each health insurance member, eradicating the duplication of insurance cards. It will also help manage the spending of the health insurance fund.

Meanwhile, it is also important for the VSS and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to make social welfare cards which will combine social insurance books and health insurance cards, Son added.
