VSS proactively provides information on social insurance and health insurance

On October 26, 2016, under the chairmanship of Deputy Director General Tran Dinh Lieu and Deputy Director General Pham Luong Son, Vietnam Social Security (VSS) held a conference to provide a periodic report on social insurance and health insurance implementation to news agencies. This activity is carried out to provide accurate, sufficient and timely information for press agencies and the public.

On October 26, 2016, under the chairmanship of Deputy Director General Tran Dinh Lieu and Deputy Director General Pham Luong Son, Vietnam Social Security (VSS) held a conference to provide a periodic report on social insurance and health insurance implementation to news agencies. This activity is carried out to provide accurate, sufficient and timely information for press agencies and the public. 

Currently, VSS is implementing several information technology projects, with promising initial outcomes. VSS also informed of its plans to continue conducting administrative reform focusing on: restructuring business processes, demystifying and simplifying standard operating procedures, norms and forms in social insurance and health insurance schemes, implementing electronic transactions, and modifying the method of dossier delivery among social insurance agencies and enterprises.

Additionally, provincial social security offices actively advised Provincial Party Committees and People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and coordinated with all concerned departments to apply numerous solutions to extend coverage, increase the participation of informal workers and settle social insurance and health insurance benefit claims in a timely fashion.

At the conference, the Deputy Directors General and leaders of attached departments addressed some issues of public concern, such as retirement age adjustment, health care cost control, preparatory steps for national health insurance drug procurement, processing to hand over social insurance books to employees, and ensuring the balance of health insurance funds for accurate and sufficient calculations of social insurance and health insurance benefits.

Figures by the end of September 2016:

- Compulsory social insurance: 12.5 million people

- Unemployment insurance: 10.7 million people

- Voluntary social insurance: 194,000 people

- Health insurance: 74.3 million people

- Social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance contributions: 178.8 trillion dong

- Estimated social insurance settlement: 6.2 million visitors

- Reimbursement of health insurance medical expenses: 104.7 million visitors.
