According to Ms. Hang, after two years of implementing the Conclusion, overseas Vietnamese affairs achieved important results.

Firstly, a majority of overseas Vietnamese want the Party and State to create conditions for them to enjoy a number of policies and rights like domestic people in investment and business, working or returning home to live. Therefore, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has actively coordinated with relevant agencies to propose amendments and complete policies related to overseas Vietnamese, including the nationality policy, and recently, relevant agencies are considering expanding the subjects of citizen identification to include Vietnamese residing abroad in the draft Law on Public Identification (amended).

Secondly, the Committee has paid special attention to the work of promoting great solidarity, mobilizing overseas Vietnamese to return to their homeland, contributing to the consolidation of the great national unity bloc, in addition to continuing to organize activities to connect people with the country in annual events such as Homeland Spring, visits to Truong Sa Island district and the DK1 flatform, attendance at the Hung Kings Death Anniversary, and Vietnam Summer Camp. Notably, overseas Vietnamese have more and more practical activities to contribute to the protection of the country's sea and island sovereignty, such as organizing activities towards the sea and islands of the Fatherland, and establishing clubs for the Spratly and Paracel Islands in many countries such as France, Germany, Czech, Hungary and Poland.

Thirdly, in order to mobilize and promote overseas Vietnamese resources more effectively, domestic and foreign agencies have successfully coordinated to organize many seminars, conferences and business forums; establishing a network of overseas intellectuals and businesspeople; and establishing a mechanism for overseas Vietnamese to contribute opinions on major issues of the country.

“We also support to remove problems for overseas Vietnamese when returning home to invest, do business, and conduct scientific cooperation; and mobilize overseas Vietnamese to participate in introducing and consuming products and developing distribution channels of Vietnamese goods abroad. Vietnamese businesspeople and businesses in many areas, typically in the United States, Europe and Thailand, have significant economic potential, actively participate in the promotion and introduction of Vietnamese products in foreign countries for many years,” said Ms Hang.

Currently, overseas Vietnamese have 385 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of more than USD1.7 billion and have contributed capital to thousands of Vietnamese enterprises, contributing to job creation, technology transfer and socio-economic development. The source of remittances back home has continuously increased despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fluctuations of the world situation. Remittances in 2022 reached USD19 billion, an increase of 5% from 2021, putting Vietnam in the top 10 countries in the world in receiving remittances.

Fourth, supporting overseas Vietnamese to have a solid legal status for life stabilization in the host country continues to receive attention. In foreign affairs activities, Vietnamese Party and State leaders always ask leaders of other countries to pay attention to, support, and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study, and work locally. Difficulties regarding the legal status of overseas Vietnamese in some areas are gradually being resolved or firmly consolidated, and Slovakia has officially recognized the Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic minority community in the country.
