PM urges studies to support elderly people without health insurance

The Prime Minister has asked relevant ministries and agencies to propose and complete policies and regulations relating to elderly people, including studies to provide reasonable assistance for those without health insurance.

The Government Office has issued Notice No102/TB-VPCP about the conclusion of the PM at the working session with the Vietnam Association for the Elderly. The PM acknowledged, applauded and appreciated achievements made by the association. Since its establishment, the association has developed strongly with the participation of a large number of elderly people. It has demonstrated its role as a social organization representing the aspirations and legitimate interests of the elderly.

The PM also acknowledged difficulties and challenges facing the association’s operations, such as limited implementation of policies for elderly people, failing to meet real demand; and many elderly people living in poor conditions. These difficulties must be dealt with in the future.

The PM instructs the association to continue encouraging elderly people to promote their valuable experience to contribute to socio-economic, scientific, cultural, education, healthcare and security activities; as well as to participate in supervising the implementation of regulations and policies for elderly people and to give feedback to policy and law building of State agencies.

The PM basically agreed with the association’s proposals. Regarding the proposal for the association to participate in building the draft amendments to the Law on the Elderly, the PM requested the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to coordinate closely with the association in the construction process, focusing on adjusting new and urgent issues in line with the real situation.

Concerning the proposal to amend and supplement regulations relating to policies for the elderly and the policy to support elderly people without health insurance, the PM entrusted the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to coordinate with the association and relevant ministries and agencies to study and assess the situation and implementation results to propose the completion of regulations and policies for elderly people.

Regarding the proposal on a project to build resorts for the elderly with the funds being mobilized from private sources, the PM asked the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to work with the association and relevant ministries and agencies to study the feasibility of the project in line with the task to protect and care for the elderly as well as real conditions and planning and related regulations.
