Viet Nam needs 150 million COVID-19 vaccine doses for its ambitious program, Long said, adding that the nation has been working with foreign vaccine producers and accelerating research, development and production of homegrown vaccines.

To secure funding for purchase COVID-19 vaccines, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recently approved additional allocation of US$53 million to the ministry.

The first batch of 117,600 COVID-19 vaccine doses arrived in Viet Nam in February 24, allowing the country to kick-start national inoculation program on March 8.

Meanwhile, the nation received the first tranche of 811,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX Facility - a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO, on April 1.

As of 4:00 pm on April 3, more than 52,330 frontline workers have been vaccinated against the virus.

To date, Viet Nam documented 2,629 COVID-19 infection cases, including 2,383 recoveries and 35 fatalities./.
