Viet Nam will receive additional 4.1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in May as the country is stepping up efforts to secure enough vaccines for national vaccination program, said Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.
To secure funding for purchase COVID-19 vaccines, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recently approved additional allocation of US$53 million to the ministry.
The first batch of 117,600 COVID-19 vaccine doses arrived in Viet Nam in February 24, allowing the country to kick-start national inoculation program on March 8.
Meanwhile, the nation received the first tranche of 811,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX Facility - a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO, on April 1.
As of 4:00 pm on April 3, more than 52,330 frontline workers have been vaccinated against the virus.
To date, Viet Nam documented 2,629 COVID-19 infection cases, including 2,383 recoveries and 35 fatalities./.
