The consumer price index (CPI) in ten months increased by 2.48 percent

According to the General Statistics Office, in October 2019, the consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.59 percent compared to September; the average CPI in ten months increased by 2.48 percent over the same period in 2018. This is the lowest ten-month average increase in the last three years.

In the CPI increase of 0.59 percent in October 2019 compared to the previous month, there were 10 of 11 groups of goods and services with price index increases, of which the group of food and catering services had the highest rise of 1.04 percent. The transport group increased by 0.99 percent due to impacts of the gasoline and oil price adjustment on October 1, 2019 and the reduction of gasoline and oil prices on October 16, 2019 which made the gasoline and oil price index increase 2.22 percent. The CPI of the group of housing and construction materials increased 0.53 percent mainly due to the gasoline and oil price rise on October 1, 2019, causing the gasoline and oil price index to increase 7.62 percent. The CPI of the education group increased 0.19 percent due to increasing tuition fees applied for the new school year 2019-2020 in some localities.

Generally, the average CPI of the ten first months of 2019 increased by 2.48 percent compared to the same period in 2018; October’s CPI increased by 2.79 percent compared to December 2018 and by 2.24 percent over the same period last year.

Core inflation in October 2019 increased by 0.15 percent over the previous month and by 1.99 percent over the same period last year; the average core inflation in the first ten months of 2019 increased by 1.92 percent compared to the same period in 2018.

The average world gold price as of October 24, 2019 decreased by 1.26 percent compared to September 2019. Domestically, the gold price index in October 2019 decreased by 0.57 percent over the previous month, increased 17.38 percent compared to December 2018 and increased 19.01 percent over the same period last year.

The US dollar price index in October 2019 increased by 0.03 percent over the previous month; decreased by 0.46 percent compared to December 2018 and by 0.56 percent over the same period last year./.
