According to UNESCO Institute for Statistics, vocational education is education that is designed for learners to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies specific to a particular occupation or trade or class of occupations or trades. Vocational education may have work-based components (e.g. apprenticeships).

Successful completion of such programmes leads to labour-market relevant vocational qualifications acknowledged as occupationally-oriented by the relevant national authorities and/or the labour market.

On May 23, at the Headquarters of the MOLISA, Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung had a cordial meeting with Mr. Keijo Norvanto - Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung highly appreciated Finland's interest in vocational education cooperation promotion between Vietnam and Finland marked by the Vietnam - Finland Vocational Education Forum, organized by the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged content on cooperation promotion in vocational education and dispatching Vietnamese workers to work in Finland.

“The forum shared lessons and exchanged directions to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and Finland in improving the quality of vocational education; enhanced opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam’s vocational education institutions and Finnish training institutions" - Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung assessed.

He proposed that the Ambassador continue to be a bridge for coordinating and promoting cooperative activities in vocational education between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung said that Vietnam and Finland have a lot of potential cooperation, especially labour area.

From the end of 2023 until now, about 20 Vietnamese workers have been accepted by Finland to work in occupations such as nursing, welding, and forestry.

Ambassador Keijo Norvanto said that Vietnam and Finland have a multi-faceted relationship, focusing on two main areas trade cooperation and sustainable development.

However, there is not much cooperation between the two countries in labour and vocational education.

He said that to overcome the labour shortage due to an aging population and low birth rate, in recent years, the Finnish Government has begun to find ways to attract workers abroad.

Ambassador Keijo Norvanto suggested that the MOLISA pay more attention to promoting cooperation in labour between the two countries, specifically research and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on Vietnamese workers going to work in Finland.
