Hanoi’s Humanitarian Month aims to raise 15 billion VND for the needy

The Red Cross Society of Hanoi on April 28 launched the Humanitarian Month in 2023 with the theme “From our heart – Joining hands in building humanitarian community”.

The peak period of the month will be the second and the third week of May with various activities across the capital city.

This year, the programme aims to raise at least 15 billion VND (639,318 USD) to support 35,000 needy people.

Major activities of the month will be associated with the “kind people, good deeds” movement, focusing on ensuring safety for poor fishermen and improving nutrition for children with disabilities.

First implemented in 2018, the annual Hanoi Humanitarian Month has assisted more than 239,000 needy people with a total of more than 99.8 billion VND, said Dao Ngoc Trieu, President of the Red Cross Society of Hanoi, at the launching ceremony.

At the ceremony, the city Red Cross Society received more than 22 billion VND from donors.

Also at the event, the Hanoi Red Cross Society and the city Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee signed an agreement on coordination to organise humanitarian and charity activities in the 2023-2027 period.

On the occasion, a 20-member rapid-response voluntary squad of the Hanoi Red Cross Society made its debut, aiming to deliver free meals and transport patients for free, along with performing other tasks assigned by the city Red Cross Society.

Within the event, the Red Cross Society of Cau Giay district provided capital support, motorbikes and 26 scholarships to poor households and students in the city.

A voluntary blood donation festival was also held, expecting to collect more than 300 blood units./.
