1. Agriculture, forestry, and fishery

a) Agriculture

– Summer-autumn rice: By mid-July, the whole country had planted 1,905.3 thousand hectares of summer-autumn rice, equaling 99.9% of the same period last year. In which, the northern provinces reached 172.9 thousand hectares, equaling 98.7%; the southern provinces reached 1,732.4 thousand ha, equal same period last year, the Mekong Delta reached 1,473.2 thousand ha, equaling 100.5%.

b) Forestry

Generally, in 7 months of 2023, the area of newly concentrated planted forest was estimated at 138.5 thousand hectares, down 0.3% over the same period last year; the number of scattered forest trees reached 52.1 million trees, up 4.9%; timber production reached 10.5 million m3, up 2.8%; the damaged forest area was 1,348.8 hectares, up 92.8% over the same period last year, including the destroyed forest area was 715.5 hectares, up 9.3%; the burned forest area was 633.3 hectares, 14 times higher.

c) Fishery

Fishery output in July, 2023 was estimated at 823.1 thousand tons, up 2.6% over the same period last year, including: aquaculture output reached 474.7 thousand tons, up 3.4%; the caught fishery output reached 348.4 thousand tons, up 1.6%. Generally, in 7 months of 2023, fishery output was estimated at 5,093.6 thousand tons, up 1.9% over the same period last year, including fish reached 3,669.6 thousand tons, up 1.7%; shrimp reached 673 thousand tons, up 3.5%; other fishery products reached 751 thousand tons, up 1.3%.

2. Industrial production

– The index of industrial production (IIP) in July 2023 was estimated to increase by 3.9% over the previous month  and by 3.7 % over the same period last year. Generally for the first 7 months of 2023, IIP is estimated to decrease by 0.7% over the same period last year ( in the same period in 2022, it increased by 8.6%). In which, the manufacturing decreased by 1% (in the same period in 2022 increased by 9.5%), reducing 0.7 percentage points in the general increase; electricity production and distribution increased by 1.4%, contributing 0.1 percentage points; water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 6.3%, contributing 0.1 percentage points; mining and quarying decreased by 1.2%, reducing 0.2 percentage points.

– Industrial production index for 7 months in 2023 compared with the same period last year increased in 49 localities and decreased in 14 localities.

3. Enterprise registration status

– In July, the whole country had 13.7 thousand newly established enterprises, a decrease of 1.2% compared to June 2023 and an increase of 4.3% compared to the same period last year. In addition, the country also had more than 7 thousand enterprises re-operated, down 1% compared to the previous month and down 3.5% compared to the same period in 2022; 6,884 enterprises ceased for a certain time, up 34.9% compared to the previous month and up 3% over the same period in 2022; 5,257 enterprises temporarily ceased and awaited dissolution procedures, a decrease of 8.6% and an increase of 19%; 1,581 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 6.7% and down 10.5%.

– In the 7 months of 2023, the country had 131.9 thousand newly established enterprises and re-operated enterprises, down 1.4% compared to the same period last year. The average every month had 18.8 thousand newly established and re-operated enterprises. The number of enterprises withdrawing from the market was 113.3 thousand enterprises, an increase of 19.8% over the same period last year; on average, 16.2 thousand enterprises withdraw from the market each month.

4. Investment

Realized investment capital from the State budget in July was estimated at 58.5 trillion VND, up 28.4% over the same period last year. In the seven months of 2023, the investment capital realized from the State budget was estimated at more than 291 trillion VND, equaling 41.3% of the year plan and increasing by 22.1% over the same period last year (the same period last year 2022 by 39.7% and increasing by 12.3%).

– Total foreign investment capital registered in Vietnam as of July 20, 2023, including: Newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital and value of capital contribution and share purchase by foreign investors reached 16.24 billion USD, an increase of 4.5% compared to that of foreign investors. with the same period last year.

Realized foreign direct investment capital in Vietnam in the first seven months of 2023 was estimated at 11.58 billion USD, up 0.8% over the same period last year.

Vietnam’s investment abroad in the 7 months of 2023 has 69 projects newly granted investment certificates with a total capital of 149.2 million USD, down 52,5 % over the same period last year; There were 17 times of projects adjusted capital with the adjusted capital increased by 171,4 million USD, 3.8 times higher than the same period.

5. State budget revenue and expenditure

Total state budget revenue in July 2023 was estimated at 133.9 trillion VND. Accumulated total state budget revenue in the seven months of 2023 was estimated at 1,016.1 trillion VND, equaling 62.7% of the year estimate and down 7.8% over the same period last year.

Total state budget expenditure in July 2023 was estimated at 158.4 trillion VND. Accumulated total state budget expenditure in 7 months of 2023 was estimated at 957 trillion VND, equaling 46.1% of the yearly estimate and increasing by 13.7% over the same period last year.

6. Trade, prices, transport and tourism

a) Retail sales of consumer goods and services

Total retail sales of consumer goods and services in July was estimated at 512.2 trillion VND, up 1.1% over the previous month and up 7.1% over the same period last year. Generally for 7 months of 2023, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services at current prices was estimated at 3,529.8 trillion VND, up 10.4% over the same period last year (up 15.7% in the same period in 2022), if excluding the price factor, up 9.6% (the same period in 2022 increased by 11.7%).

b) Export and import of goods

 – Export of goods: Export turnover of goods in July 2023 was estimated at 29.68 billion USD, up 0.8% over the previous month and down 3.5% compared to the same period last year. Generally in 7 months of 2023, the export turnover was estimated at 194.73 billion USD, decreased by 10.6% over the same period last year.

 – Import of goods: Import turnover in July 2023 was estimated at 27.53 billion USD, increased by 4.4% over the previous month and decreased by 9.9% compared to the same period last year. Generally in 7 months of 2023, the import turnover was estimated at 179.5 billion USD, decreased by 17.1% over the same period last year.

– Regarding the export and import market of goods in 7 months of 2023, the United States was Viet Nam’s largest export market with a turnover of 52.4 billion USD. China remained the largest import market of Viet Nam with a turnover of 58.6 billion USD.

– The trade balance of goods in July was estimated to have a trade surplus of 2.15 billion USD. Generally in 7 months of 2023, the trade balance of goods is estimated to have a trade surplus of 15.23 billion USD (in the same period last year, the trade surplus of 1.34 billion USD).

c) Consumer price index, gold price index and US dollar price index

– The consumer price index (CPI) in July 2023 increased by 0.45% compared to the previous month. Compared to December 2022, July CPI increased by 1.13% and compared with the same period last year by 2.06%. On average in 7 months of 2023, CPI increased by 3.12% over the same period last year; core inflation increased by 4.65%.

– Gold price index in July 2023 decreased by 0.03% compared to the previous month; increased by 3.27% compared to December 2022; increased by 3.39% over the same period last year; the average increase of 7 months in 2023 increased by 1.06%.

– US dollar price index in July 2023 increased by 0.53% compared to the previous month; down 1.71% compared to December 2022; increased by 1.04% over the same period last year; the average 7 months of 2023 increased by 2.39%.

d) Transport

Passenger carried in 7/2023 was estimated at 398.5 million passengers, up 1.3% over the previous month and passenger traffic was 21.1 billion passengers-kilometers, up 2.9%. In 7 months of 2023, passenger carried was estimated at 2,615.1 million passengers, up 15.8% over the same period last year and passenger traffic was 140.3 billion passengers.km, increased by 27.6%.

Freight transport in 7/2023 was estimated at 191.2 million tons of freight carried, up 0.7% from the previous month and 39.7 billion tons.km of freight traffic, up 4.8%. Generally for 7 months of 2023, freight transport was estimated at 1,303.6 million tons of freight carried, up 15.3% over the same period last year and 270.7 billion tons.km of freight traffic, an increase of 12.7%.

International visitors to Viet Nam in July reached over 1 million arrivals, up 6.5% compared to the previous month and 2.9 times higher than the same period last year. In 7 months of 2023, international visitors to our country reached 6.6 million arrivals, 6.9 times higher than the same period last year but still equal to 67.5% compared to the same period in 2019 – the year without the Covid-19.

7. Certain social situations

– According to the survey, the living situation of households in July was stable compared to the previous month. The work of ensuring social security has always been concerned by all levels and sectors. According to a report from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in the 7 months of 2023, the Government has supported more than 18.2 thousand tons of rice for 204.7 thousand households with more than 1.2 million people, of which: Rice support for people during the Lunar New Year was 16.9 thousand tons of rice; to support people in the period of the year 2023 with more than 1.3 thousand tons of rice. – In July 2023, according to a report from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the police of provinces and centrally-run cities compiled by the Departments of Statistics, the authorities detected 1,071 cases of environmental violations. Generally, in the 7 months of this year, 11,070 cases of environmental violations were detected, of which 9,807 cases were handled with a total fine of 176.8 billion VND, up 16.5% over the same period last year.
