36th ASSA Board Meeting opens in Brunei

The 36th Board Meeting of the ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA 36) kicked off its two-day event on September 17 in Brunei, under the theme “Information Technology and Communication: Innovation in Social Security Services”. The meeting witnessed the attendance of representatives from the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Social Security Association and 20 member organisations of ASSA.

Managing Director of Employees Trust Fund (ETF), Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei delivers a congratulatory speech.

As Chairwoman of the ASEAN Social Security Association for the 2018-19 tenure, Deputy Minister, Director General of Viet Nam Social Security Nguyen Thi Minh made the opening remark, stressing that: Over the past year, the ASSA member organisations have implemented the Joint Statement signed at the ASSA 35 which was concretised in the Action Plan with numerous specific and practical activities; and made efforts for cooperation and mutual assistance, information exchange, and experience in order to sustainably develop social security in the region in accordance with spirits and goals that ASSA set out from its inception. The achieved results are vivid proof of the cooperation efficiency of the 20 member organisations of ASSA, which are gradually commensurate deeply and substantially with the potentials and strengths of each member organisation and the Association as a whole.

During the two-day meeting, delegates review the implementation of the ASSA Action Plan for 2018-19, and assess the role of Viet Nam Social Security as ASSA’s rotating chairmanship and General Secretary for the 2018-19 term. On the occasion, the special publication on ASSA’s 20-year development compiled and published by Viet Nam Social Security is also introduced to the delegates. The book details basic information about the 20 member organisations of ASSA as well as milestones during the 20 years of ASSA since its establishment.

Representatives from the ASSA member organsiations discuss, and share experience in carrying out activities related to the key topic: “Information technology and Communication: Innovation in Social Security Services”. Of note, presentations include Technology with Social Security: Trend and International Vision by ISSA expert; Judgment and Forecast of Social Protection and Future Jobs by ILO expert; Viet Nam Social Security with a Roadmap to Implement the Multimedia Interaction System with Individuals and Businesses; Experience in Deploying the Information System of Myanmar’s Social Security Board (SSB); Registration for biometric authentication-based social security rights through the unique identification number of the Indonesia’s Social Security Administrating Body for Employment (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) …

Presenting ASSA 2019 awards for member organisations.

Within the framework of the event, as ASSA chairmanship Viet Nam Social Security presided over the ASSA 2019 Awards ceremony, presenting 18 awards in six categories for representatives of 18 ASSA member organisations. Specifically, Viet Nam Social Security was honoured for “Accelerated administrative reform, improved services for the people and businesses”.

During the meeting, delegates are expected to elect ASSA chairmanship for the 2019-20 tenure and discuss orientations and solutions towards further linkages and close cooperation, which aims to build a harmonious social security community within ASEAN for the sake of people, and for stability and prosperity of the region./.
