Scientific Workshop on collecting opinions for the Draft of the Commemorative book “30 years of implementing social, unemployment and health insurance policies”

In the morning of October 8, 2024, in Hanoi, Vietnam Social Security held a scientific workshop to collect opinions on the draft of the Commemorative book “30 years of implementing social, health and unemployment insurance policies”. The workshop was co-chaired by Tran Dinh Lieu, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Social Security; Nguyen Hai Hong, Editor-in-Chief of Social Security Magazine; and Nguyen Vinh Quang - Institute of Social Security Science’s director.

Attending the workshop were Vu Quoc Tuan, Deputy Secretary of VSS’ Party Committee office; VSS’ leaders of affiliated units; the social security offices’ representatives from of several localities, the People's Public Security Social Security, and the Ministry of  National Defense’s  Social Security.

Experts were former VSS’ Deputy General Directors: Nguyen Dinh Khuong and Pham Luong Son; Nguyen Tri Thuc, Communist Review Editorial board member and Head of the special issues board of Communist review; as well as representatives from the Finance publishing House and the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Opening remarks, Deputy General Director Tran Dinh Lieu emphasized that the compilation of the commemorative book "30 years of implementing social, health and unemployment insurance policies" is a part of information and communication events aimed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Vietnam Social Security industry establishment (February 16, 1995 - February 16, 2025), to communicate and introduce the industry’s image, activities, and outstanding achievements in ensuring social security. The commemorative book is considered as a document recording the journey and important milestones from the foundation to the development and successful implementation of social, health and unemployment insurance policies. The book highlights the contribution of those who made history - generations of social security officials, Party committees at all levels, government authorities, and related ministries and industries that have collaborated and supported the industry throughout the 30-year journey. Notably, the book will be printed and electronically published to reach all segments of society. Therefore, the Deputy General Director emphasized that the editorial team must ensure accuracy and objectivity, carefully selecting images and content to fully reflect the industry’s achievements and challenges over the past 30 years.

In a brief introduction on the draft commemorative book, a representative from the Editorial Team stated that the draft focuses on the history of the industry's formation and development, as well as its significant contributions to the national social security system.

Overview of the Workshop

At the workshop, most delegates and experts highly appreciated the important role of the commemorative book in preserving valuable and memorable moments, as well as the significant milestones in the implementation of social, health and unemployment insurance, and policies in Vietnam. Additionally, they acknowledged the attentiveness and dedication of VSS’ leaders in directing and guiding the development of the book, along with the efforts of the Editorial Team who has drafted a comprehensive, systematic, and scientific draft. To further improve the commemorative book, delegates suggested that the Editorial Team research the title and layout; add or simplify certain contents, and ensure that the sources of information are authoritative, accurate, and as adequate as possible.

Assigned to lead and draft the commemorative book, Nguyen Hai Hong, Editor-in-Chief of Social Security Magazine stated that in a very short time, the Editorial Team has made significant efforts to gather information from 93 units, including: the Party Committee, the Office of the Party Committee, the Office of the Management Council, VSS’ various affiliated units, and social security offices in provinces and cities to distill and synthesize data from numerous sources, including commemorative book and documents related to the sector, to initially construct the draft content for the book "30 years of implementing social insurance, unemployment insurance, and health insurance policies" of VSS. With a scientific and receptive spirit, the Editorial Team will welcome contributions and continue to research, refine information, and select images to complete the content of the commemorative book, ensuring that it is released in time for the 30th anniversary of VSS’ establishment.

Concluding the workshop, Lieu sincerely appreciated the heartfelt opinions of the delegates. He emphasized that the commemorative book is not only a document preserving history but also must accurately reflect the practical implementation of policies over the past years. Lieu requested that the Editorial Team incorporate, revise, and supplement the materials to finalize and publish the commemorative book in time for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Social Security.
