Viet Nam Social Security pays US$1.94 billion for employees, employers during the pandemic

Employees and employers have received a total of VND45.4 trillion (US$1.94 billion) from the Government’s support packages after Viet Nam Social Security mobilised all resources to efficiently deploy the packages since 2020.

The agency said it has accelerated disbursement progress, as well as applied information technology to simplify procedures and save time so that employees and employers could quickly receive benefits of the packages.

Besides, the agency’s leaders have given timely and drastic instructions to seriously and effectively deploy the packages for employees and employers, including guiding employees and employers to access support packages; diversifying forms of receiving dossiers regardless of administrative boundaries as well as cutting the maximum processing time to deal with procedures to no more than one working day, the agency said.

The effective implementation of the support packages on social and unemployment insurance contributed to ensuring social security, removing difficulties for employees and helping businesses have more ability to restore and maintain production activities, the agency said.

The agency also said that with the special attention of the Party and State, unprecedented policies to support employees and businesses during the pandemic were issued quickly.

Thereby, the benefits of employees and businesses that participated in social insurance and health insurance were demonstrated more clearly during the pandemic, the agency said.

The agency’s implementation of the support packages has clearly shown the pivotal role of social and unemployment insurance policies in the country's social security system, the policies have become essential needs and fulcrums in the lives of every citizen, the agency said.

Under the Government’s Resolution No 42/NQ-CP dated April 9, 2020, and Resolution No 154/NQ-CP dated October 19, 2020, the agency decided to suspend payments to the retirement and survivorship fund for 1,847 units and enterprises, equal to 192,503 employees around the country, worth over VND786.8 billion ($33.7 million).I

Under the Government’s Resolution No 68/NQ-CP dated July 1, 2021, the agency reduced the contribution to the occupational accident insurance fund for over 375,000 units, equivalent to nearly 11.1 million labourers, with an amount of about VND4.3 trillion ($184.5 million).

It also decided to suspend payment to the retirement and survivorship fund for 2,760 units, equal to 374,126 employees, with an amount of VND1.9 trillion ($81.6 million).

It already paid fees to improve skills for 5,038 labourers, worth VND23.5 billion ($1 million) to maintain jobs at 36 units.

Under the Government’s Resolution No 116/NQ-CP dated September 24, 2021, the agency finished the announcement of the reduction of payment to the unemployment fund for 363,600 units, equal to 9.67 million labourers.

The reduction is worth about VND7.95 trillion ($341.6 million). The announcement was finished only five days after the resolution took effect.

By the end of December 31, 2021, the agency paid VND30.8 trillion ($1.3 billion) from the unemployment insurance fund for nearly 12.968 million employees./.
