First group of over 2,400 workers get housing rental support

Fifty-five out of 61 provinces and cities have issued plans and publicised administrative procedures needed to implement the housing rental support for employees. Two of the first localities, namely Vinh Phuc and Ca Mau, have approved support worth VND1.17 billion for 2,431 workers.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs submitted to the Prime Minister to issue Decision 08/2022/QĐ-TTg, dated March 28, 2022, regulating the implementation of the housing rental support policy for employees.

Under the decision, two groups will receive support, including labourers working in enterprises and labourers returning to the labour market, at a rate of VND500,000 per person per month (US$21.7) and VND1,000,000 per person per month, respectively.

The maximum period of support is three months.

The policy is aimed at helping businesses, cooperatives and household businesses have human resources to recover production and business activities, contributing to promoting growth. Priority will be given to a number of sectors creating motivation for socio-economic recovery and development. It will be implemented in the first six months of 2022.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs on March 28 issued Decision No 257/QĐ-LĐTBXH to publicise new administrative procedures on implementing the housing rental support policy and organised a national teleconference on April 12 to implement the decision.

According to the ministry, apart from Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces which have no workers eligible for the support policy, 55 out of the remaining 61 provinces and cities issued plans to implement the programme.

As of May 20, 2022, two provinces, namely Vinh Phuc and Ca Mau, approved the list of support for 2,431 people with total funds of VND1.17 billion.

The ministry said as businesses and employers are still making lists of recipients and completing procedures, not many workers have yet been approved to get the support.

Regarding the implementation of the policy to support employers get loans to pay salaries for workers and recover production, the ministry is coordinating with relevant ministries, sectors and agencies to review the implementation of policies supporting employers and employees in order to propose follow-up policies.

According to the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, as of March 31 (when the support following Resolution No 68 ends), 3,561 employers nationwide received loans worth VND4.788 trillion to pay salaries for nearly 1.22 million employees and to recover production and business activities.

Loans were allocated chiefly to employers in localities that were seriously affected by the pandemic such as Dong Nai, HCM City, Binh Duong, Ha Noi and Bac Ninh.

As of May 20, 2022, more than VND81.7 billion was provided to implement support policies for 728,416 employers and 49,696,702 employees and other beneficiaries./.
