At the 37th ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA 37) Executive Board Meeting (ASSA 37), Vietnam Social Security (VSS) was honored to receive the ASSA Chairman's Award under the category “Ongoing Innovation” and the content called “Vietnam Social Security – Expanding voluntary social insurance coverage”.

On behalf of VSS, General Director Nguyen The Manh received the ASSA Chairman's Award under the category “Ongoing Innovation” and the content called “Vietnam Social Security – Expanding voluntary social insurance coverage”

The award is the recognition and appreciation of the Association towards the achievements of Vietnam Social Security in contributing to the implementation of the goals of reforming social insurance policies and developing voluntary social insurance participants to achieve outstanding results. Specifically, according to the report by VSS, by the end of 2019, there were 570,000 people participating in voluntary social insurance nationwide, an increase of 263,000 people compared to 2018. This is an impressive number and also a sudden increase as the number of new people increased in 2019 alone was nearly equal to the 10-year result of implementing this policy from 2008 to 2018. In 2008, the first year of implementing the voluntary social insurance policy, Vietnam had only 6,000 participants. By the end of 2018, the number was 270,000 people.

In particular, due to the heavy impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the growth rate of Vietnam's voluntary social insurance participants still achieved impressive results. By the end of November 2020, the number of people participating in voluntary social insurance nationwide reached 951,494. It is estimated that by the end of 2020, the number will reach over 1 million./
