In 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) held the World Health Conference for the first time and decided to take April 7 every year as World Health Day starting from 1950 toward the goals of quality access and effective healthcare services for everyone. Also, the World Health Day aims to promote people to pay attention to their own health, public health and global health.

World Health Day 2026 and Vietnam’s inaugural National Health Day mark not just a celebration, but a commitment. By embedding science at the heart of policy, Viet Nam is building a modern, equitable and sustainable health system that benefits every citizen.

World Health Day 2026 with the theme “Together for health. Stand with science” launches a year-long campaign celebrating scientific collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the planet through the One Health approach. It underscores evidence-based policies, multilateral cooperation, and trust in science to turn research into real-world impact.

In Vietnam, starting from April 7th, 2026 this this global day has officially been chosen to be Vietnamese National Health Day (Ngày sức khỏe toàn dân) by the Politburo through Resolution 72-NQ/TW dated September 9th, 2025. This reflects a profound policy shift which places people’s health at the centre of national development and transform the healthcare system from a treatment-focused model to more preventative and long-term priority.

The official launch of National Health Day took place on 5 April 2026 at Thống Nhất Park in Hanoi, organised jointly by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation and the Ministry of Health. Attendees included senior leaders such as  Head of Central Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization Trịnh Văn Quyết, Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng, Health Minister Đào Hồng Lan and international delegates. The 2026 National Health Day has the national theme of Proactive Disease Prevention for a Healthy Vietnam that in line with WHO’s call to stand with science by prioritising prevention grounded in evidence, innovation and collective action.

At the event, thousands of people took part in free medical check-ups, consultations, aerobic exercises, and walking activities. Screening areas staffed by doctors from major hospitals in Hanoi used advanced techniques such as Doppler echocardiography, electrocardiograms, and rapid biochemical tests to detect common diseases at an early stage.

Similar activities rolled out nationwide, mobilising hundreds of medical staff and promoting healthy lifestyles through walking events and community outreach. These grassroots efforts embody the WHO campaign’s emphasis on “turning evidence into action” and building trust in science at the community level.
