A heartwarming Tet for the poor: The state's preeminent welfare policy

On December 16, at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa district, Long An province, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Social Security (SS) Tran Dinh Lieu and the VSS delegation came to present social insurance books and health insurance cards to the poor and those with difficult situations in the district. Attending the ceremony, there were representatives of a number of units under the VSS, Ho Chi Minh Social Security Office, Thanh Hoa district government, and sponsors.

The ceremony to give books and cards is within the framework of the Program to give social insurance books and health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances launched by the VSS on November 23, 2022.

At the awarding ceremony, VSS Deputy General Director Tran Dinh Lieu said that over the years, the VSS has launched and implemented many programs to give social insurance books and health insurance cards to people with difficult circumstances in the past years, with funding contributed from the salaries of civil servants, public employees, workers in the industry and other support sources.

In order to continue to spread the human values of this activity, on November 23, 2022, the VSS General Director launched a program to donate nearly 20,000 social insurance books and 120,000 health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances with a view to both financially and mentally supporting people in difficult circumstances, reducing the burden of medical treatment costs thanks to the health insurance card when they are unfortunately sick; have the opportunity to participate in voluntary social insurance to enjoy pension and health care in old age.

On behalf of the VSS industry, Lieu thanked the donors for the noble gestures and benevolent hearts, considering that this is not only financial support but also timely mental support, in order to partially share for difficult situations across the country.

On behalf of the people, the representative of the Thanh Hoa district government expressed gratitudes towards the VSS and donors for joining hands with the city in supporting disadvantaged people to have motivation and strive in life.

Mr. Dinh Van Hung smiled brightly while holding a health insurance card in his hand, and shared, "For many years now, my family has saved a lot of money to take care of their sick and elderly mother. Now thanks to the VSS, poor people like us understand and get access to welfare policies of the Party and State. According to Hung, receiving a free health insurance card will help him reduce difficulties and worries when Tet is approaching.

According to statistics, the total number of social insurance books and health insurance cards given by donors at the Central Government to the people of Ho Chi Minh City is 150. Including sources contributed by public employees and workers of the municipal social security office and mobilized from businesses, there will be 400 social insurance books and 1,228 health insurance cards given to needy people in Ho Chi Minh City. Thus, in Ho Chi Minh City alone, since the beginning of the year, 1,200 social insurance books and 3,131 health insurance cards have been donated to people in difficult circumstances with an amount of about 5 billion VND.

Previously, on December 15, Deputy General Director Tran Dinh Lieu and the VSS delegation attended the ceremony and presented 60 social insurance books and 60 health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances in Tay Ninh province./.
