Month-long campaign launched to promote social insurance for all

A month-long campaign was launched in provinces and cities across Vietnam on Sunday (May 8) to promote voluntary social insurance and family health insurance.

This is the third year that Vietnam Social Security (VSS) and Vietnam Post have co-organised the launching ceremony of the campaign to call on people to participate in voluntary social insurance and household health insurance.

“Social insurance - fulcrum for you and your family”

At the VSS headquarters in Hanoi, the launching ceremony was broadcast to 63 localities nationwide and co-chaired by General Director of Vietnam Social Insurance Nguyen The Manh and General Director of Vietnam Post Chu Quang Hao.

In localities nationwide, Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committees of 38 provinces and cities, the heads of the Steering Committees for the implementation of policies on social insurance and health insurance of provinces and cities, representatives from departments, agencies, branches and organisations attended the ceremony.

The launching ceremony was organised online and in person.

Nearly 700 mobile communication teams drove cars and motorbikes around major streets in parades with messages of social insurance, banners, slogans and posters.

With the theme "Social insurance - the fulcrum of you and your family", this year's campaign will focus on extensive communication on the meaning, role and humanity of the policy of voluntary social insurance, household health insurance, rights and benefits, financial support from the state budget and local budget for people who participate in voluntary social insurance and household health insurance.

At the same time, the campaign also focuses on the increase of the minimum voluntary social insurance payment from January 1, 2022, increased pensions and the disadvantages of getting a one-time social insurance allowance.

The one-month campaign is expected to attract 10,000 people to participate in voluntary social insurance.

Efforts made for universal social insurance

Speaking at the ceremony, General Director of Vietnam Post Chu Quang Hao said that over the years, Vietnam Post Corporation, with its collection agency system and a large network of collaborators, had closely co-operated with Vietnam Social Security like an extension of VSS in developing participants of voluntary social insurance and household health insurance.

 “Vietnam Post is very flexible and proactive in closely coordinating with social insurance agencies at all levels to deploy forms of communication to attract people join voluntary social insurance and health insurance,” he said.

Communication campaigns, customer conferences, online media conferences, and direct consultations with individuals and households were conducted.

As a result, over the years, Vietnam Post has developed nearly 1 million new participants in voluntary social insurance and nearly 6 million people participating in household health insurance nationwide.

Hao emphasised that in 2022 and the following years, Vietnam Post determined that the development of participants of voluntary social insurance and household health insurance was one of its key tasks.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Director of Vietnam Social Insurance Nguyen The Manh said the coverage of social insurance and health insurance has been continuously increased and expanded.

By the end of April 30, 2022, the number of people participating in social insurance reached over 16.6 million, accounting for 33.6 per cent of the labour force, marking an increase of 521,000 people over the same period in 2021.

Of them, the number of people participating in compulsory social insurance reached over 15.3 million, an increase of 369,000 over the same period in 2021.

The number of people participating in voluntary social insurance reached nearly 1.3 million, an increase of 152,000 compared to the same period in 2021.

The number of people participating in health insurance is over 85.8 million, reaching 86.8 per cent of Vietnam’s population.

General Director of Vietnam Social Security Nguyen The Manh asked the social insurance agencies of provinces and cities to actively and proactively advise the Party committees and local authorities to continue strengthening leadership and direction relating to social insurance and health insurance with specific roadmaps and solutions.

He also called on localities to have policies on financial support for social insurance participants.
