Support for UXO victims to buy health insurance

Victims of unexploded ordnance (UXO) left from wartime will receive support to buy health insurance. This is one of the important contents of Decree 18/2019/ND-CP on the management and implementation of activities settling post-war UXO consequences that was recently issued by the Government and will take effect on March 20, 2019.

The decree specifies the rights of UXO victims, including receiving the State’s support in primary health care, rehabilitation, education, vocational learning, employment and social protection.

Children of UXO victims from social policy beneficiary families, poor or near poor households or those with special disadvantages will be granted scholarships and financial aid to buy learning tools under legal regulations.

UXO victims are entitled to the same rights as people with disabilities as stipulated by law.

Additionally, they are entitled to the State’s support to receive health care if they have accidents, to buy health insurance, and to gain health insurance benefits under health insurance regulations. They will also be assisted in orthopaedic surgeries, rehabilitation, education, vocational learning, seeking jobs, improving livelihoods and using social services.

The State will also help with the resettlement and economic activities of residents in UXO contaminated areas. It will support children of UXO victims from policy beneficiary families, poor or near poor households, or those with special disadvantages to pursue education./.
