First 117,600 doses of Covid-19 vaccines arrive in Vietnam

On February 24, a plane carrying the first batch of 117,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccine landed at HCM City-based Tan Son Nhat international airport.

The vaccine was jointly studied and produced by AstraZeneca pharmaceutical company and the UK’s Oxford University.

Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong highlighted the significance of the vaccine delivery at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is erupting in Hai Duong, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

With the delivery, Vietnam has become one of the first countries in Asia to access a prestigious vaccine in the world.

The Ministry of Health has identified first groups of people to be vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with frontline healthcare workers given top priority.

According to the ministry, Vietnam needs at least 150 million doses to COVID-19 vaccinate its nearly 100 million people.

Four Vietnamese research institutes and companies are in the process of researching and developing COVID-19 vaccines. Two of the locally produced vaccines, Nano Covax and Covivac, are currently under human clinical trials.

Students in 52 provinces, cities come back to school

As of February 24, schools in 52 provinces and cities reopened to their students. The 11 remaining provinces and cities are considering the pandemic situation in their localities to make decisions on when their schools can reopen, reported VNA.

The Ministry of Education and Training has requested local departments of education and training and educational institutions nationwide to strictly implement COVID-19 prevention and control measures, especially when students come back to school.

Schools are urged to stay vigilant against the pandemic, and proactively carry out prevention and control measures to ensure safety for students, with the focus on disinfecting classes, teaching and learning tools and toys.

Schools are also requested to coordinate with parents to keep a close watch on students’ health while they are at home and at school.

The Ministry of Education and Training also asked schools to actively build study plans for students to ensure the quality of their study after a long holiday.

Thang Long Imperial Citadel expected to become Heritage Park

The Thang Long Imperial Citadel in the centre of Hanoi should be preserved and developed with a vision to become a Heritage Park, said Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue at a working session with its management body - the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre.

The Hanoi leader said that along with the Co Loa Relic Site, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel is a precious heritage of Hanoi. He stressed the need to promote the citadel relic site’s values in line with tourism development.
