Prime Minister declares nCoV epidemic

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on February 1 signed Decision No 173/QĐ-TTg declaring the 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV) an epidemic in Viet Nam.

The decision clearly states: Declaring an epidemicin Viet Nam.

1. Name: The acute respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus (nCoV).

2. Starting date: From January 23, 2020 (when the first case of the pneumonia-like virus infection in Viet Nam was confirmed).

3. Location and scale: KhanhHoa, Vinh Phuc and Thanh Hoa (with six confirmed cases of infection).

4. Cause: The novel coronavirus

5. Nature and danger level of the epidemic: Class A contagious disease at public health emergency of international concern.

6. Transmission: Transmitted from human to human via respiratory system.

7. Prevention and control measures: Implementing the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, including:

a) Setting up a national steering committee on the prevention and control of the epidemic;

b) Declaring and reporting the epidemic;

c) Providing emergency and health check-up and treatment services;

d) Organising medical isolation;

e) Cleaning, sterilising and disinfecting infectedareas;

f) Personal protective measures;

g) Ensuring travel in and out of infected areas is under control;

h) Mobilising and using available resources for epidemic prevention and control activities;

i) International cooperation in epidemic prevention and control;

k) Other preventive measures.

8. Medical establishments are required to receive, isolate, supervise and treat infected patients:

a) Hospitals at provincial and central levels, hospitals of the police and army sectors and other qualified hospitals;

b) Field hospitals (if they are mobilised);

The Prime Minister asks relevant ministries, agencies, People’s Committees of provinces and cities, medical establishments, organisations and individuals to strictly implement the direction of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Document No 79-CV/TW dated January 30, 2020; the Direction No 05/CT-TTg dated January 28, Direction No06/CT-TTg dated January 31, 2020 and Circular No 121/CĐ-TTg dated January 23, 2020 by the Prime Minister; and directions of the Ministry of Health and related legal regulations.
