Viet Nam calls for joint efforts to promote sustainable development

Member states of the United Nations emphasize the need for securing resources and international cooperation in solving global problems.

The Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs of the 77th Session United Nations General Assembly opened on October 3-4 and conducted the Annual General Discussion under the chairmanship of the Commission's President, Lachezara Stoeva, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the UN.

At the opening session, the countries said that the world was facing numerous challenges, negatively impacting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as conflict, disease, climate change, food and energy insecurity, economic and financial challenges and public debt burden.

At the regional level, Ambassador Dang called for regional and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms to address challenges and promote sustainable development.

In his remarks, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, permanent representative of Viet Nam to the UN, stated that to achieve the SDGs, countries must step up efforts at national, regional and global levels.

At the national level, countries must place their people at the center of development policies and strategies by prioritizing building a solid macroeconomic foundation and enhancing the economy's resilience to shocks.

At the regional level, Ambassador Dang called for regional and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms to address challenges and promote sustainable development.

At the global level, the Ambassador emphasized that peace, security and stability are prerequisites to putting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development back on track. Accordingly, he called for an end to conflicts and peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law and the UN Charter.

On this occasion, Dang shared Viet Nam's achievements in implementing the SDGs and affirmed that Viet Nam has actively participated in global and regional efforts to promote sustainable development and improve people's lives.

He asked the international community to support Viet Nam's candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council for the term 2023-2025 to continue contributing more to the world's joint work.
