NDO – The Ministry of Health has proposed the suspension of unnecessary mass gatherings, entertainment activities, festivals, and religious activities in localities that are at risk of pandemic outbreaks during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

The proposal was made in a dispatch sent to the Government Office on strengthening measures to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic during the Tet vacation.

According to the Ministry of Health, many localities are still recording new daily COVID-19 cases in the community, especially in localities with high population density and bustling trade and travel. In addition, the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly, with complicated and unpredictable developments in many countries around the world and in the region.

The Ministry of Health proposed the halting of unnecessary mass gatherings, entertainment activities, and festivals in localities at risk of pandemic outbreaks to ensure pandemic prevention and control during the Tet holiday.

People's travelling and trading during the Tel holiday must absolutely comply with the 5K regulations set by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, based on the local pandemic situation, localities should assess and update the pandemic level on their local portal and the Ministry of Health’s portal to take enhanced measures for the pandemic prevention.

Vietnam has recorded more than 1.5 million COVID-19 cases since the fourth outbreak of the pandemic to December 17, including 1.1 million recovered patients and more than 29,000 deaths.
