Việt Nam-US relation has developed deeply after 25 years: PM

After 25 years, the US-Việt Nam relationship developed and deepened, said Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

He made the statement at a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Hà Nội yesterday.
PM Phúc expressed his thanks to US President Donald Trump and the US Government for their practical support in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent flooding in the central region.
Pompeo sent his condolences for the losses and damage caused by the disaster.
He appreciated the results of his talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh, affirming that the US attached great importance to the comprehensive partnership with Việt Nam, on the principle of respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political system.
The US committed to promoting deeper, stable and more solid relations with Việt Nam in the future, he said.
The US Secretary of State said that the US supported ASEAN's central role in Southeast Asia, and wished to promote the ASEAN-US strategic partnership and the Mekong-US partnership.
Prime Minister Phúc welcomed the two sides' decision to continue the effective implementation of the Action Plan towards a harmonious and sustainable trade balance. He also emphasised the importance of energy cooperation in bilateral relations.
The PM said Việt Nam was committed to set up an open, transparent investment and business environment, creating favourable conditions for enterprises from other countries, including those from the US to develop business in the country.
PM Phúc and US Secretary of State Pompeo shared a positive assessment of the results of the Indo-Pacific Business Forum that took place in Hà Nội on October 28-29.
The US Secretary of State said enterprises of the two countries had signed commercial contracts with high value in the fields of energy infrastructure, supply of industrial equipment, information technology as well as government measures, contributing to improving the trade relationship.
