Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the G20 Leaders’ video conference

Attending the video conference were heads of state and senior leaders of G20 member countries and a number of guest countries, along with leaders of major international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Trade Organization (WTO), World Health Organization (WHO), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), International Labor Organization (ILO), etc.

At the video conference, the leaders reached to an agreement on taking all necessary medical measures to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic; timely and transparent sharing of information, valuable experience and practices in limiting the spread, detection and treatment for infected cases; strengthening coordination in research and development of vaccines, specific medicines, as well as enhancing resilience and cooperation in dealing with future infectious diseases.

The leaders attending the conference pledged to use monetary, fiscal and economic policy instruments to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic on socio-economic development. The conference arrived at an agreement on coordination to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on international trade, ensuring the operation of global supply chains, especially essential raw materials and medical products.

The conference adopted the G20 Joint Statement on the COVID-19 pandemic response, which demonstrates political determination, strong commitment and solidarity in COVID-19 prevention and control work as well as promotes sustainable and inclusive global economic development.

Sharing with the leaders at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc claimed that global solidarity, cooperation and coordination are of great significance; affirming Vietnam's determination and commitment in combating the COVID-19 epidemic; stressed that Vietnam is persistent in implementing its dual goals of both preventing and controlling the epidemic and developing the economy and social security. The Prime Minister affirmed that as Vietnam assumed 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship, Vietnam has been working with ASEAN countries to uphold the spirit of the community on being “cohesive and responsive”. Vietnam has been strongly implementing measures and actions against COVID-19, at the same time, sharing information and experiences with many G20 countries and partners.

The Prime Minister complimented on the important role and active contribution of the G20 as well as international organizations such as the United Nations, WHO, WB, IMF and WTO in the fight against COVID-19. As a result of Vietnam’s efficient control of the epidemic, the Prime Minister shared with the leaders numerous measures on promoting cooperation and joint actions in response to the COVID-19 epidemic such as strengthening information exchange, sharing experiences, providing technology and technical support in testing, control and treatment; taking advantage of the consensus, cooperation and participation of the people, social organizations and armed forces; focusing on fighting against the epidemic in parallel with boosting, facilitating trade and investment cooperation, maintaining supply and production chains, creating jobs and stabilizing people's lives; ensuring safety for Vietnamese citizens and ASEAN countries living in G20 countries, etc.

The participation and sharing of strong and drastic measures to promote coordination of the Prime Minister at the G20 video conference affirmed Vietnam's support and cooperation towards the G20 and the national community in combating the COVID-19 epidemic, which reflects that Vietnam has been a proactive and responsible contributor to strengthening global cooperation in response to common challenges.
