PM meets with seriously injured war veterans

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc participated in a meeting to honor 500 seriously injured war veterans who represent over 12,000 ones and 1.2 million war veterans nationwide on the occasion of the 72nd War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

The event drew the attendance of Head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilization Commission Truong Thi Mai, head of the Party Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission Vo Van Thuong, along with other senior officials.
According to PM Phuc, the seriously injured war veterans who attended the meeting were the examples of tenacious and indomitable persons overcoming difficulties to support their families and continuing to contribute to society.
PM Phuc went on to say that on this occasion every year, Vietnamese people who are living in peace and independence express their gratitude to war veterans and martyrs.
The Party, State, and people always pay attention to and take care of people with merits. Each year, State budget allocates over VND 32 trillion (US$ 1.37 billion) for revolutionary contributors.
Over 9.2 million people have been given preferential treatment under support policies for revolutionary contributors. They include families of nearly 1.2 million martyrs, more than 138,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mother holders, some 2 million war invalids and sick veterans, and hundreds of thousands of people who were imprisoned by enemies or affected by toxic chemicals.
As of 2010, the ‘Showing Gratitude’ movement received VND 6.5 trillion of aid; built and repaired over 155,000 houses of gratitude worth nearly VND 13 trillion; presented over 124,000 savings books worth more than VND 980 billion. Over 6,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers were supported for their whole lives./.
