Mozambique: About 800,000 households benefit from social security system
According to Razak, who was speaking on Monday, in Maputo, at the opening ceremony of the “3rd Edition of the Dialogue on Social Resilience”, which marked the beginning of the celebrations for “Social Protection Week”, taking place under the motto “Investing in social protection is investing in human capital”, the assistance is divided into mandatory social security, provided by the National Social Security Institute (INSS), and the basic social security, provided by the National Social Welfare Institute (INAS).

US to publish CPI report for annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday it would publish September's consumer inflation report on October 24 to assist the Social Security Administration with its annual cost-of-living adjustment for 2026 for millions of retirees and other benefits recipients.

Old-age dependency growing across EU regions
The EU’s old-age dependency ratio, defined as the proportion of elderly individuals (aged 65 years or over) relative to the working-age population (people aged 20 to 64 years), has increased noticeably in the last 20 years. In 2004, the EU’s old-age dependency ratio was 26.8%, meaning there were slightly fewer than 4 working-age adults per elderly person aged 65 years or over. On 1 January 2024, the ratio was 37.0%, indicating that there were fewer than 3 working-age adults for every elderly person.
