On October 15, 2018, the Government issued Decree No. 143/2018/ND-CP detailing the Law on Social Insurance and the Law on Occupational Safety and Health on compulsory social insurance for employees who are foreign workers in Vietnam. After 2 years, the total number of FDI enterprises participating in social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance and the total revenue of social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance from FDI enterprises have increased significantly.

According to Decision No 222/QĐ-BHXH on administrative procedures that are replaced or abolished under the jurisdiction of Vietnam Social Security, which has been issued recently, the administrative procedures of Vietnam Social Security are cut from 27 to 25, contributing to significantly reducing the time of submission and receiving results for enterprises and people.

According to the Vietnam Social Security (VSS), health insurance cardholders made about 160 million visits to healthcare facilities last year. Of them, dozens of thousands of patients had the health insurance fund cover their costs ranging from VNĐ100 million ($4,300) to VNĐ1 billion ($43,300) each.
