Enhance cooperation in social security between Vietnam and Bangladesh

In the afternoon of April 23rd, at the headquarter of the Vietnam Social Security (VSS), General Director Nguyen The Manh presided over a working session between VSS and a high-level delegation from the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The program was attended by Mr. Mohammad Mahbub Hossain, Minister of Cabinet Affairs of Bangladesh.

In his remarks during the meeting, the General Director Nguyen The Manh extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by Minister Mohammad Mahbub Hossain and the officials of the delegation to pay a visit to the VSS to exchange experiences on social security with VSS. According to the General Director , the event is very meaningful. It is under the series of cooperative activities between Vietnam and Bangladesh, particularly in the field of social security, in line with the high-level agreements between the leaders of the two countries, the most notably commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the official visit to Bangladesh by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam in September 2023

General Director Nguyen The Manh emphasized that Vietnam and Bangladesh share a longstanding tradition of attach in the preocess of the history of nation-building and defense. In the field of social security, VSS and Bangladesh's Ministry of Social Welfare have engaged in numerous closely coordinated activities, particularly in exchanging experiences and implementing specific action programs at various stages. This lays the legal foundation for further strengthening the amicable relationship and mutual development in social welfare tasks, ensuring maximum benefits for the people and businesses of both countries. General Director Nguyen The Manh expressed his hope that through the results of delegation's visit, opportunities for cooperation between VSS and Bangladesh's ministries, departments, and social welfare agencies will be created for the practical benefit of the people, contributing positively to enhance and consolidate the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

Further sharing with the high-level delegation from Bangladesh, General Director Nguyen The Manh stated that as a governmental agency responsible for implementing social and health insurance policies which are the two main pillars of the national social welfare system, VSS has continuously strived for reform, innovation, and development towards professionalism, modernity, sustainability, and effectiveness to meet the satisfaction of the people and businesses. VSS currently serves over 90.16 million health insurance participants and 17.4 million laborers participating in social insurance. The reform of administrative procedures and the application of information technology (IT) are continuously promoted and modernized, providing 100% online public services, ensuring the process of accelerating digital transformation in line with the roadmap of building a digital government in Vietnam... These are extremely positive results in the overall social security landscape of the country.

In his remarks during the working session, Minister of Cabinet of Bangladesh, Mohammad Mahbub Hossain, congratulated the excellent cooperation between Vietnam and Bangladesh in the past period. He expressed confidence that both sides will further enhance and promote comprehensive cooperation to improve the capacity for implementing social welfare policies, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of serving the people and businesses of each country. Mr. Mahbub Hossain expressed his impression of the results on ensuring social security for the people and businesses in Vietnam in general, and VSS’ achievements in particular. He also hoped that the two countries would continue to cooperate closely in ensuring social security, contributing to the strong development of the Vietnam-Bangladesh relationship in the future.

During the working session, both sides exchanged some social security fields such as: Ensuring the implementation of VSS's key social welfare policy objectives; Addressing the regime for particularly vulnerable, migrant and informal workers; Implementing government policies and directives on ensuring sustainable socio-economic development; Expanding health insurance coverage to the entire population and social insurance participants; Challenges and solutions in implementing social insurance and health insurance policies.

At the end of the working session, the Bangladesh delegation representatives stated that the practical experiences gained in Vietnam would greatly assist in managing and operating the social welfare system domestically and addressing similar difficulties in both countries. They also expressed their intention to conduct more similar activities in the future to exchange knowledge and experiences between the two nations.
