May, 2021 marks the second year that “The Month for mobilising, implementing the universal social insurance coverage” has been carried out in line with the Prime Minister’s Decision No 1676/QÐ-TTg which approves the Scheme to comprehensively renovate contents, forms and methods of disseminating social insurance. As the COVID-19 pandemic has been and is exerting negative impacts on the Vietnam social security sector’s efforts to increase the number of voluntary social insurance participants, Vietnam Social Security has been proactive and made all efforts to overcome challenges, and adopted communications methods flexibly and creatively to ensure the “double” goals, expanding the voluntary social insurance coverage whilst strictly abiding by regulations on COVID-19 prevention and fighting.

According to the Vietnam Social Security (VSS), health insurance cardholders made about 160 million visits to healthcare facilities last year. Of them, dozens of thousands of patients had the health insurance fund cover their costs ranging from VNĐ100 million ($4,300) to VNĐ1 billion ($43,300) each.

According to a report by the Customer Service Center (Vietnam Social Security (VSS)), as of May 9, 2021, 4,806,146 applications nationwide for registration of VssID have been approved, showing that the application is increasingly accepted by people and workers.

The application of information services on the mobile platform VssID of Viet Nam Social Security has been clearly demonstrating a good tool for protecting employees and insurers since it was put on operation in December 2020.
