Health insurance, as an important social policy, holds humanitarian meaning and profound community-sharing value. It has been highly appreciated by the Party and State and also become one of the pillar policies in the system of social security policy of our country. The practical implementation of health insurance policy over the time indicated that, thanks to participating in health insurance, many disadvantaged patients have been covered with healthcare fees by the Health Insurance Fund; therefore, many families have not been falling back into poverty because they do not have to pay the "huge" medical costs for their relatives. The Health Insurance policy not only brings a material value, but also becomes a mental support, strengthening people’s motivation and faith to fight diseases and reintegrate into life.
Health Insurance - The "golden" card for health
According to VSS’s statistics, in the past few years, the Health Insurance Fund has paid from 100-105 trillion VND each year for medical care and health insurance, of which many patients were paid up to billions VND per year. In addition to the payment of normal healthcare fees, the Health Insurance Fund has also covered fees for many people with serious diseases and other chronic diseases, such as Hemophilia (inherited blood clotting disorders), cancer, cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, etc. For that reason, for many years, Health Insurance has been considered by a majority of participants as a "lifesaver", an indispensable "guardian card" of every person.

As one of the patients that unfortunately suffer from Hemophilia, Mr. Tuyen (Ung Hoa district, Hanoi) knows about this malignant disease better than anyone. Until now, with more than 20 years fighting the disease, Mr. Tuyen determined that he had to stick with the hospitals for the rest of his life, accompanied by extremely expensive treatment costs. During this arduous journey, Mr. Tuyen has always brought a health insurance card alongside. To him, the health insurance card is the "savior" to help him survive. He shared: “The amount of medical treatment of more than 2 billion per year is beyond my family's ability to pay. Fortunately, thanks to my health insurance card, I was benefitted 100% of the treatment costs. Without my health insurance card, I would not have been alive until today.”
Besides Mr. Tuyen, Mrs. Tra's family (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) also appreciates the health insurance policy, because of the benefits that health insurance has brought to her. Three years ago, Mrs. Tra suffered a stroke. On the boundary of life and death, with her family’s companionship, the medical team’s dedication and the Health Insurance Fund’s valuable support, Mrs. Tra "defeated the death" and overcame the illness step by step. More than a year of treatment with the amount of 140 million VND supported by the Health Insurance Fund, Mrs. Tra and her family members show more appreciation for the Health Insurance card and understand the necessity of participating in Health Insurance to protect herself and family’s health. Mrs. Tra said: “Our life is full of unpredictable risks, so just actively participate in Health Insurance. It is not only for our own sake but also a way to relieve the burden on our family in case we unfortunately get sick or disease. If we are healthy, participating in health insurance is also a way to support and share risks with the community."
