Over the past time, VSS has closely followed instructions and directions of the Government, the Prime Minister and Vietnam Social Security’s Management Council. Concurrently, VSS has proactively worked with ministries, sectors, and localities to carry out a series of solutions to fulfill assigned tasks.
Addressing the event, VSS’s Chief of Office Chu Manh Sinh said in October, VSS issued a number of important documents including the five-year Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2021-2025; Action Plan to Realise the Social-Economic Development Plan for the five-year period of the social security sector; among others.;… As central provinces were suffering from storms and flooding, VSS quickly instructed social security agencies in these localities to carry out certain tasks to timely cope with impacts caused by the natural disasters, including policies related to social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance for units, enterprises and people in the region.
By October 2020, VSS had reported 15.68 million participants of social insurance nation-wide; 13.03 million participants of unemployment insurance; and 86.25 million participants of health insurance, with total premium up to 312,312 billion dong.
During the month, the whole sector paid monthly social insurance allowance for 12,538 participants; lump-sum social insurance allowance for 69,992 people; sickness, pregnancy and convalescence and health rehabilitation insurance allowance for 816,270 people; unemployment social insurance allowance for 84,410 people; medical examination and treatment for 15,427 million people with health insurance cards with total spending up to VND9.3 trillion.

Attendees at the meeting indicated and discussed weaknesses as well as existing difficulties facing the sector over the past time.
Speaking at the end of the event, VSS Director General Nguyen The Manh applauded efforts of units in the whole social security sector but called for them to make further attempts to enhance the quality and efficiency of performing assigned tasks.
The Director General said social security agencies nation-wide should proactively find ways to overcome shortcomings, especially in works related to the collection of insurance premiums and increase the number of participants. He also pushed for improved dissemination of policies associated with social and health insurance, and unemployment insurance and improved online and distant training via television channels. Director General Manh requires strict implementation of ensuring the interests of participants and serious settlement of the abuse of social and health insurance fund, proposing to authorized bodies if any abuse is detected. It is necessary to speed up the development of a Code of Violation Identification; accelerate the inspection and examination and timely detect units evading social insurance premium payment, he said.
Of note, Director General Manh said the launching of VssID mobile application is an important step of the social security section. VssID will provide essential information related to the participants’ payment and enjoyment of social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance premium; help monitor employers’ obligation to pay fees of social, health and unemployment insurance for their employees; contributing to improved publicity and transparency of the participation process and enjoyment of social and health insurance schemes and policies. “We will gradually enrich VssID data to facilitate the participation and enjoyment of social and health policies,” said the Director General.
