The Viet Nam Social Security and the World Health Organisation (WHO) recently held a working session to discuss health cooperation in the coming time.

The event was chaired by VSS Deputy Director General Nguyen Minh Thao and Momoe Takeuchi, Health Systems Development Advisor, WHO.

Numerous activities are annually jointly implemented by the VSS and the WHO, which help improve the enforcement of social insurance policies in Vietnam.

In the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the VSS hosted four activities, including monitoring the use and expenditure on necessary medications and health care equipment at central hospital in Hanoi and HCM City in 2012-2013; developing a database of medications and products covered by social insurance fund; evaluating the participation of coastal fishermen in social insurance, proposing measures to expand coverage of social insurance among fishing households; and updating data, printing out social insurance records in 2013-2014 fiscal year.

In the 2016-2017 fiscal year, the VSS in coordination with the Department of Health Insurance under the Health Ministry to develop mechanism to ensure private sector and households will join health insurance and mobilise resources to cover health insurance fees for near-poor people and those with disadvantaged background.

The VSS will continue proposing cooperation activities with WHO in health care technology in Vietnam, human resource training. An international conference gathering sponsors of the VSS will be held on November 30 this year.

Addressing the working session, Thao expressed his hope that the WHO and VSS will strengthen their cooperation in heath care, thus improving and bettering enforcement of Vietnam’s health insurance policies.
