Vietnam Social Security (VSS) on April 25 held a drill in response to information safety attacks in the northern region with the theme: "Responding to continuous and targeted attacks against the information system of the social insurance sector" in the northern province of Phu Tho. Vice Director General of VSS Pham Luong Son attended and delivered a speech to guide the drill.
The programme was held by the Information Technology Centre of VSS in collaboration with the Information Safety Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Department of Cyber Security and Hi-tech Crime Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Public Security and the Department of Cyber Security Monitoring under the Government Cipher Committee.
Participants included leaders and heads of information safety units of VSS and representatives of 25 social insurance agencies in northern provinces and cities.
Deputy Director General of VSS Pham Luong Son speaks at the event.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Director General Pham Luong Son said the social insurance sector has over the past years proactively applied information technology and carried out digital transformation in line with the global trend, the national digital transformation strategy and direction from the Government and the Prime Minister.
Professional activities of the sector as well as communication between social agencies and citizens and businesses are based on a digital database. VSS has connected with nearly 13,000 medical establishments and more than 500,000 organisations and businesses using social insurance via public services portals nationwide.
The VSS has provided public services at level 4 for 100 per cent of administrative procedures of the sector via the public services portal of the VSS and the national public services portal. In 2021, the social insurance transaction system received and handled over 94.6 million dossiers.
In an effort to participate in the national digital transformation programme, the social insurance sector has implemented many activities to ensure information safety while developing information systems, software and databases.
“In the future, when the national database of insurance is put into operation and shared with ministries, agencies and localities, ensuring safety for the information systems of the social insurance sector is a great challenge in the context of a high risk of cyber attacks with advanced techniques,” he said.

Deputy Director General Pham Luong Son said the social insurance sector has invested in and prepared solutions and equipment to prevent cyber attacks and threats. However, in the field of information safety, risks also come from the lack of awareness and skills on information safety among users.
Therefore, in order to improve the capacity, knowledge, and skills of officials in charge of information safety, in 2020, the VSS organised conferences and drills about information safety. And this year, the VSS organised the drill in response to the threat of cyber attacks.
