On December 27, 2017, the Ministry of Defense and Vietnam Social Insurance signed the Coordination Regulation No. 15498/QCPH-BQP-BHXH on the implementation of policies and laws on social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance. After 3 years of implementation, it has actively contributed to the leadership, direction and organization of the implementation of the legal policies on social insurance and health insurance, ensuring better and better benefits on social insurance and health insurance towards subjects managed by the Ministry of National Defense, contributing to ensuring social security in the Army.

On December 9, 2020, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued Resolution 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 on arranging administrative units at district and commune levels and establishing Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City. In the spirit of Resolution 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14, dated January 22, 2021, the General Director of Vietnam Social Security signed the Decision No. 128/QD-BHXH on the establishment of the social security office of Thu Duc City and sent the staff for management to continue activities of the industry, while ensuring social security activities in the newly established area.

Latest survey undertaken in 2018 finds more than 1.7 million children participating in economic activities across Viet Nam, among whom more than 1 million are engaged in child labour. Viet Nam’s second National Child Labour Survey launched on 18 December identifies an estimated 5.3 per cent of the 5-17 year olds engaged in child labour. This accounts for more than 1 million children. Conducted by the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) in coordination with the General Statistics Office with technical support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), the rate of child labour in Viet Nam is approximately 2 percentage points lower than the regional average for Asia and the Pacific.
