ASSA urges for further linkage and cooperation

The 36th Board Meeting of the ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA 36) continued its agenda on September 18, with talks focusing on activities that ASSA carried out in the previous term.

Taking place in Brunei, delegates at the two-day event also took the occasion to map out orientations for the coming tenure.

ASSA chairwoman for the 2018-19 tenure, Vice Minister, Director General of Viet Nam Social Security Nguyen Thi Minh presides over the meeting.

Under the chairmanship of Director General of Viet Nam Social Security and ASSA Chairwoman for the 2018-19 tenure Nguyen Thi Minh and Deputy Director General of Viet Nam Social Security and ASSA General Secretary Dao Viet Anh, the event reviewed the implementation of the ASSA Action Plan for the 2018-19 period and affirmed the role of Viet Nam Social Security as the rotating chairmanship and General Secretary of ASSA in the 2018-19 period.

On the occasion, participants voted to include the National Savings Fund (NSF) of Thailand as a new member of ASSA. NSF is a voluntary pension fund for self-employed workers and part of the Thailand’s social security system.

Also the delegates elected Mrs. Hajah Chairani Binti Haji Sulaiman, Acting Managing Director of the Employee Trust Fund of Brunei as ASSA chairwoman for the 2019-20 tenure; and Ouk Samvithyea, Director of Cambodian National Social Security Fund (NSSF) as vice chairman of ASSA for 2019 – 2020.

In the 2019-20 tenure, ASSA member organisations agreed to take measures to further strengthen linkages and cooperation; and make efforts and determination to build a harmonious and developed social security community within ASEAN for the sake of people, and for stability and prosperity of the region./.
